5. Be seen and heard by the right people.

In journalism, speaking up for yourself is essential to staying true to who you are and the work you believe in. The industry can be high-pressure, and it’s easy to feel like your voice doesn’t matter, especially when everyone’s racing to break the next story. But advocating for yourself. Whether it’s pushing for a story you believe in, questioning an angle that doesn’t feel right, or simply asking for time to get it right which isn’t just about making your job easier. It’s about protecting the integrity of your work and your well-being.

Speaking up is often hard, but it’s also how you make sure your voice is heard and respected. Every time you stand firm, you’re not only reinforcing your credibility but also reminding yourself of your worth. At the end of the day, true journalism is about honesty and courage that starts with being brave enough to stand up for yourself.
